Late Gate Arrival Due to an Emergency

This only applies to entering KNP

If you are already within KNP and arrive late, you will be fined. Repeat offenders may face additional penalties, including a summons.

Late gate arrivals at KNP are permitted only in emergencies

This service is available until 21:00 for guests with pre-booked accommodation within 10 km of the relevant gate. To use it, you’ll need a valid reason and proof of a genuine emergency.

For instance, a medical emergency would require a discharge letter as proof, while a car breakdown should be backed up with documentation from a roadside recovery service. The delay must be proven to be due to unforeseen circumstances.

It’s best to call the gate in advance and explain your situation. The final decision on whether you can enter or not is up to them, so being polite and providing clear proof of your unexpected delay will help your case.

Escorts After Gate Closure

Even in emergencies, avoid driving after dark within KNP if possible

  • It’s a national park teeming with wildlife. (Do you potentially want to come face to face with a herd Elephants in the dark?)
  • If you know you’ll be arriving late, consider booking accommodation outside the park and inform the camp that you’ll be arriving the next day due to the emergency.
